Wood Shavings

Wood shavings are our #1 selling wood by-product. The reason? Wood shavings are perfect for animal bedding! Wood shavings are kiln dried, absorb moisture, easy to clean up, and the unique curvature, or curls, of the shavings are safe for animal feet and hooves. When it comes to animals, wood shavings are often the preferred wood by-product. Wood shavings can be used with horses, dairy cows, sheep, goats, turkeys, geese, ducks, and chickens.

Double Ground Mulch

Often used for landscaping, mulch is good for holding moisture over the hot, dry summer months. When used under trees and shrubs, mulch mimics a forest floor and helps provide nutrients, while suppressing weed growth and seed germination. Mulch also aids in reducing erosion, which helps to keep the nutrients where you need them: around your trees and shrubs.

We have, but are not limited to, Double Ground Mulch, Triple Ground Mulch, Pine Bark Mulch, Black Mulch, and Playground Mulch. As it’s name implies, Double Ground Mulch is put thru the grinder a second time after the first grind has seasoned. Double Ground is course with a dark brownish tone and is the most requested mulch product. Triple Ground Mulch is put in the grinder a third time and is mixed with a black carbon; the finished product is finer and has a very rich, dark, almost black, tone to it. Triple Ground Mulch is used where beauty is of the utmost importance.

Compost

After shredding, our compost decomposes as it is seasoned outdoors. Our customers consider it a good fertilizer and soil amendment. Our compost is also a great ingredient for natural and organic-style farming*. Compost not only provides rich nutrients for plants, and acts as a soil conditioner and fertilizer, but it’s also a natural way of providing those nutrients without adding synthetic agricultural chemicals.

We shred the plant and tree matter, add water, and regularly turn the mixture to aerate. This helps to decompose the compost properly over the time it needs for proper decomposition.

*Our compost has not been certified organic by the USDA.

Firewood

Customers can purchase our firewood by the cord or 1/2 cord. Our mixed hardwood includes oak and cherry logs, which are cut into 18″ lengths (approximate) and split. The standard length is 18 inches, but customers may request larger or smaller lengths if needed.

Straw

Straw is an agricultural by-product. It is commonly used as bedding for cows, goats, sheep, and horses.

Straw has excellent insulation characteristics and can be used in construction. Strawbale construction is gaining popularity as part of passive solar and other renewable energy projects.

Straw is also used in horticulture. It can be used to cover tuberous crops such as potatoes and sweet potatoes, and for bedding underneath strawberries to aid in keeping dirt off the berries.
